Who we are, what we do?
The Open Seminars on Philosophy and Psychiatry Foundation was officially registered as a non-profit organisation in the middle of the 2017, but as an informal group operated since April 2015, when the first conference from the Open Seminars on Philosophy and Psychiatry series was arranged. Since that time we hosted ten conferences and organized many discussion meetings, lectures, panels and workshops in Poland, gathering about 100 speakers and over 1000 participants, including experts both through education and knowledge. We oparate in Warsaw, Lublin and Poznań.
We are currently focusing on the Masovian Recovery College, founded in 2023, which is an educational institution of social support for adults experiencing a mental crisis, which we can run thanks to 3-year financing from the Masovian budget.
In November this year we are planning the 10th OSFP anniversary conference at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Warsaw, promoting the recovery model and devoted to the issue of ‘what is health?’.
OSFP Foundation was the host and main organiser of the 21st Annual Conference of the International Network for Philosophy and Psychiatry ‘Experts in Mental Health’ (22-24 Oct. 2019).
Since 2018, in partnership with Stokłosy Culture House, we have been running Teatr Kryzys, a theater group of people with mental crisis experience.
Our main aim is to integrate the research community in the humanities / social sciences, psychiatrists, therapist, people with mental issues experiences and all citizens in order to make a change in social awareness toward more open, reflexive and inclusive direction. We are convinced that the mental health problems concern all of us and are not just private, but social and global issues, and can not be solved without ethical and philosophical reflection.
We cooperate with the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and the Laboratory of Philosophy of Mental Health in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Medical University of Karol Marcinkowski in Poznań. Our local partners also include, among others: Warsaw Fountain House, eFKropka Foundation, Stokłosy Culture House, Kadr Community Center, Stokłosy Cultural Center and UMCS Chatka Żaka Academic Center for Culture and Media.
